Ingredients of Rajma

  1. You need 200 gm of Rajma seeds.
  2. You need 2 of medium size onion grated.
  3. Prepare 4 of tomatoes puree.
  4. You need 5-6 pods of garlic.
  5. Prepare 1 inch of ginger.
  6. You need 2 of black cardamom.
  7. It's 2-3 of cloves.
  8. You need 1 inch of cinnamon stick.
  9. It's 1/2 tsp of Cumin seeds.
  10. You need 1-2 of bay leaves.
  11. You need 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder.
  12. It's 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.
  13. It's 1 tsp of garam masala powder.
  14. It's 2 tbsp of oil.
  15. Prepare to taste of Salt.
  16. It's 1 tbsp of Chopped coriander leaves for garnish.

Of course, some roti would be great too. When I was in college, I ate rajma at least once a week. Rajma Masala is a very popular dish in the Northern states of India. The Punjabi way of cooking Rajma Masala is to soak it overnight in water, boil it using a pressure cooker and mix bhuna masala made with chopped onions, pureed tomato, ginger, garlic and milieu of fresh spices including cumin, coriander and chilli powder.

Rajma instructions

  1. Soak Rajma seeds overnight.
  2. Boil them a cooker along with black pepper and salt. Cook till done..
  3. In a vessel add oil and let it heat well. Add jeera, bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, ginger garlic paste, turmeric and red chilli powder. Saute for few seconds..
  4. Add the grated onions and keep stirring on low flame till it turns golden brown in colour..
  5. Add tomato puree and cook well till oil leaves the masala..
  6. Add the boiled rajma along with the water. Add extra water if needed. Add salt, but only for the masala as rest salt was added while boiling rajma..
  7. Cook well on low flame for 15-20 minutes..
  8. Serve hot with rice. Garnish rajma with some coriander leaves..
