Rajma Rajma chawal is a favorite combo in many North Indian households. Rajma is comfort food at its best. I like rajma best with simple jeera (cumin) rice. You can cook Rajma using 14 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you achieve that.

Ingredients of Rajma

  1. Prepare 1 cup of kidney beans (rajma).
  2. It's 1 of big potato (cut into small pieces).
  3. You need 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
  4. You need 1 tsp of red chilli powder.
  5. You need 1 of tomato puree.
  6. It's To taste of salt.
  7. You need 1 tsp of coriander powder.
  8. It's 2 of green chillies paste.
  9. Prepare 1 of big onion (chopped).
  10. Prepare 2 tsp of oil.
  11. Prepare 1 tsp of kasturi methi.
  12. You need 1 tsp of chopped garlic.
  13. You need 1/2 tsp of ginger paste.
  14. Prepare Pinch of garam masala.

Of course, some roti would be great too. When I was in college, I ate rajma at least once a week. Rajma Masala is a very popular dish in the Northern states of India. The Punjabi way of cooking Rajma Masala is to soak it overnight in water, boil it using a pressure cooker and mix bhuna masala made with chopped onions, pureed tomato, ginger, garlic and milieu of fresh spices including cumin, coriander and chilli powder.

Rajma instructions

  1. Soak rajma overnight and drain water and in pressure cooker let 2 whistles and open after 10 minutes. Add 2 tsp oil to pan. Add chopped onion. Fry till red and adding 1/4 cup of water make paste. Add 2 tbsp oil to pan. Add salt and turmeric to potato pieces and fry well and keep aside..
  2. Now add garlic. Saute for 10 seconds. Add ginger paste.After 30 seconds add onion paste. After 1 minute add tomato puree, green chillies paste,salt, turmeric powder,red chilli powder, coriander powder. Saute until oil reduce. Add potato and rajma. After 1 minute add 2.5 cups of water. Close with lid and cook in low flame for 10 minutes..
  3. Add kasuri methi and cook for 2 minutes in high flame. Add garam masala powder and mix well. Ready to serve..
